About

Hi, and welcome to blog that teaches you how to live the Good Life on any budget.

I Love a Good Bargain.  I’ll bet you do too.   Actually, I’ve found that most people — rich or poor, young or old, one who loves shopping or one who, like me, hates it — and for whatever different reasons…most everyone loves a good bargain.  There’s something about the thrill of  the chase, maybe.  And today more than ever, it’s chic to be frugal.  But I’ve always been all about getting the exact item I want at the price I want.

I am a native New Yorker now living the good life on the ocean in sunny South Florida.  I got married for the first time just four days short of my 50th birthday (yes, it IS possible!).  Here’s a picture of us at our (very competitively-priced and fabulous) wedding:

When I’m being goofy, I call myself Bargain Betty or Clara Coupon Clipper.    When I’m being kinder to myself, I’m the Bargain Babe (but someone else got that website, and she’s great).  Among my friends, I am often referred to as the Bargain Queen, or Princess for short.  That’s my first princess picture at the top of the page.  Halloween 1983 — Beautiful fairy princess dress found in thrift store for $1.00!  That was a really good buy.

Anyway, whatever you call me, the truth remains….when it comes to bargain hunting, I’m one of the best!  And I can teach you to be too.

I’m not sure when it started, but it’s been a long-time obsession.  Not that I always go for the cheapest, just that I get the best possible value for my money.  That leaves me me more money to do the things I want to do, even if they appear to be financially beyond my visible means.

I’m not big on coupons, but innovations on the web and in store loyalty programs have made it easier and more fun.  I shop at discount stores and use lots of discount programs.   I use the internet to research and sometimes shop, and I’ve developed a love for items with soul (aka used) and therefore am a big devotee of Ebay, Craigslist and yard sales. I have a good eye for opportunities vs. scams.  I usually know a knockoff when I see one, and when something is authentic.  I visualize exactly what I want and the price I want to pay, and often that alone brings it to me!

And mostly, I make it a game.  I play with my husband, who is not really excited but plays along.  I play big with my friends, and my sister, (aka Queen of the Rebates), and we really get a kick out of comparing our successes.  So here’s the first lesson:

Have fun!!!  I’ve made it a business so you can make it a game. I’ll show you the rules and how to break them with integrity (i.e without lying), give you the tricks and shortcuts, and do a lot of the research for you.

Stick with me — and I’ll show you how to live the Good Life for Less – Frugaliciously!
